Mr. Kukal delivers high impact safety presentations that the audience can’t forget! Using a multimedia blend of professional experience, humor and common sense, Gary’s presentations magically motivate people to be more aware of workplace hazards. By fine tuning hazard recognition skills, his presentations help people find ways to improve safety on and off the job. Mr. Kukal served as Curriculum Designer/Trainer for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Safety Training team conducting operations in the Gulf Coast region as part of the Federal Response efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma. NIEHS was activated with the National Response Plan to provide safety training to Federal workers in coordination with OSHA.

Kukal is also working under a Department of Homeland Security Agro-Terrorism Grant to provide train the trainer seminars in Arkansas for responders who may be mobilized the in event of an agricultural disease outbreak for large animals.

Providing customized environmental health and safety programs for both private and public organizations, Kukal has worked with a variety of companies to improve safety performance at every level. As a consultant, he has assisted companies with improving safety and health programs, prepare for OSHA VPP, conduct workplace audits, and conduct grant funded research to improve safety performance.

Professional Trainer

The American Society for Training and Development, and the International Board of Standards for Training Performance & Instruction, recognizes Kukal as a Master Instructor. Kukal has conducted several workplace training needs assessments and developed curriculum for a variety of workplace training programs.

  • Authorized instructor for the Midwest OSHA Education Center for both General Industry and Construction.
  • Train-the-Trainer certified by the Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute in Hazardous Materials Management.

Kukal has been active with the National Safety Council’s local Chapter, and served on the Conference planning committee and Training Committee for several years. Kukal has presented at a variety of regional and national professional conferences and corporate events to include:

Professional Experience

Mr. Kukal worked with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for 32 years in a variety of areas. As Safety Manager of the Springfield Division, Kukal worked side by side with management and rank & file in the response and clean-up of chemical spills resulting from train derailments. Kukal was directly involved in oil clean-up and in the development of the BNSF oil retaining system, and in the new construction of an oil separation reservoir, all of which were done meeting all local & EPA standards. Currently, Kukal serves as a Senior Consultant/Trainer in the Performance Based Safety, LLC consulting network.
